Leading with Compassion, Winning with Purpose: The Awesome Team Foundation at the MLK 2026 Service Learning Hackathon

There is something powerful about students who believe they can solve real world problems.

The MLK 2026 Service Learning Hackathon brought that belief to life through its theme, “Leading with Compassion. Serving with Purpose.” From brainstorming with mentors to building solutions in the VR room and film studio, students were challenged to think critically and serve boldly.

The Awesome Team Foundation proudly sponsored students to participate in this transformative experience. We believe opportunity builds confidence, and exposure builds leaders. When students are placed in environments that stretch their thinking, they rise.

And rise they did.

At the end of the day, teams presented their solutions with clarity and conviction. The Awesome Team students earned the highest score in the “Best Solution” category and received the highest overall score of the entire challenge, winning the competition and a monetary prize.

Yet the true victory was deeper than the award.

It was the collaboration strengthened. The confidence built. The compassion practiced.
