This year, the Awesome Team Foundation proudly hosted the EmpowerED: Expressions of Financial Literacy Student Creativity Competition. From April 1 to April 30, 2024, middle and high school students from across the globe showcased their remarkable talents and deep understanding of financial literacy through art, essays, and videos.
The competition received great entries, each displaying creativity and insight into financial concepts. After careful consideration by our panel of judges, we are delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our winners, who were announced in May 2024:

Art Category Winners:
1st Place:Â Chloe Song, for her intricate and thought-provoking pencil drawing that visually represents various financial concepts and their interconnections.

2nd Place:Â Sivinah Tan, for her colorful and inspiring poster that creatively illustrates the journey from career and goals to savings.

3rd Place:Â Celine Song, for her detailed and imaginative drawing that highlights the complexities of financial systems and the importance of understanding them.

Essay Category Winners (judged by Sachi Koto):
1st Place:Â Ethan Wu, for his insightful essay on the fundamental financial principles of saving, investing, and understanding opportunity costs, inspired by lessons from his father.
2nd Place:Â Daniel Xu, for his inspiring essay on starting a non-profit during COVID-19, which taught him the value of specialized knowledge and the impact of financial contributions to the community.
3rd Place:Â Mirabelle Abogi, for her thoughtful essay on the importance of early financial literacy and the role of financial foundations in achieving long-term success.
These young visionaries not only earned recognition for their exceptional work but also received substantial cash prizes from our $2700+ prize pool, generously sponsored by David Pham, Vikki Taysavang, Gary Yip, Ida Newton, Rita Lakes, and Sam Sith, along with support from The Maggie Walker Project.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all participants, judges, and sponsors who made this event a resounding success. The creativity and financial acumen demonstrated by these students inspire us to continue promoting financial literacy among the youth. We eagerly anticipate the incredible submissions in the upcoming competitions!
